II II Abstract Holmes RolstonⅢ is one of the representatives environmental ethics,He is widely recognized as the father of environmental ethics. His theory of the intrinsic value of nature is one of the most important components of this discipline. Rolston think naturally have their own intrinsic value of the objective,natural value is the object attribute for itself,have inherent purposiveness and creativeness,so that the nature is developing toward from orderly and harmony. This paper studies the enviromentaltheory theory and thoughts of Rolston with the value of nature as its heart.In chapter one,it primarily elaborates the theoretical background of the idea of natural value:scientific backgroun,the philosophical background，and introduced briefly th e development of Western Environmental Ethics in detail,put Rolston’s thought in the process of entire Western Environmental Ethics, for expand horizonse, improve analysis the ideological roots.In chapter two,it studied and analysed the main proposition and characteristics of Rolston’s natural values theory.Regarding value as clue,the enviromental ethics is based on value,and then establish the system of natural values theory.Point out that the most important characteristics is its craetivity,analysed the fourteen kinds of natures carrying on .Then elaborates that besides intrinsic and instrumental values,Rolston brought forward systemic values in the creative ecosystem.He Thinks that intrinsic value is the things which can discover value in itself and needn’t the help os such things which other things need referring to them,and it is an objective intrinsic value.Finally,it researches the application of idea of natural value in reality:the application of the idea in public policies,in enterprises,and the influence to personal moral.In chapter Three,as for an analysis and summarize with Rolston’s thought.Rreviews the contribution of Rolston’s thought and guidance i
