ABSTRACTIn ABSTRACT In recent years，the studies on Shanxi dialect gain gratifying achievements，particularly in the central and northern region．There are fourteen works about the study of Jin group in the sixteen single—point dialect monographs．It is only two works referring to Hej in dialect and Hongtong dialect which belong to the southern Zhongyuan Guanhua．It is relatively weak in the study of the southern district Mandarin of Shanxi province，and refers less to Xiaxian dialect． Xiaxian dialect is located in the southwest of Shanxi province and the west of Henai province,which belong to the sub—cluster of Xiezhou in the cluster of Fenhe which belongs to Zhongyuan Guanhua．Repetition of Yaofeng dialect in Xiaxian has certain characteristics：rich in form，large in number,wide in using scope，having strong word—building capacity． Otherwise，there al e also certain characteristics in its phonetics and vocabulary．Therefore，the purpose of this dissertation is to reveal the characteristics of Yaofeng dialect in Xiaxian in phonetics and vocabulary through a more comprehensive and systematic synchronic description． The form of repetition and semantic features are revealed dynamically and statically．In this way the overall situation of Xiaxian dialect can be manifested SO that the language materials can be the evidence for the ownership of Jin dialect and the study on the dialect in the south of III 秘 秘 Shanxi Province．Hence the overall understanding of Shanxi dialect can be enhanced． This dissertation is consisted of six parts．Introduction introduces the profile of Xiaxian humane geography and the research reviews of Shanxi dialect．Chapter One describes the phonetic system of Yaofeng dialect in and makes the comparison with the Mandarin phonetic system．Chapter Two depicts the characteristics of vocabulary of Yaofeng dialect in Xiaxian．Chapter Three，Four and Five separately describe and analyze the form of repetition，semantic feature，syntactic function of the nouns，verbs and ad
