AB AB STRACT Our count叮has been in the primaU stage of the aging societ)，．In thelnext ten years， the aging population will increase from O．202 billion now to 0．258 billion，with the aVerage 7 million per year．1n addition，China’s disabled population has reached 80 miUion．The lower limb disabled population is 30％of the total disabled population．The increasing of the aging and disabled population promotes the deVeloping of indust叫which helps aging and disabled people．As the walker which is the more widely used，the wheelchair deVelops diversified in pace with increasing demands of users．For the aging disabled people traveling more conveniently and reducing the burden of the social and f-amilyj this article， which proceeds from the users’needs，research and design stair-climbing wheelchair with using the method of innovation design．The stair-climbing wheelchair has a simple structure， a convenient operation，a stable performance and a low cost． Firstly，this anicle introduces the functional design of the stai卜climbing wheelchair including the module design and the establishment of the IDEF0 model．Secondly，this article designs the overall climbing scheme of the climbing mechanism．Based t11e analysis of climbing theory!considering the design requirements，this article designs a three star-wheels structure which meets the des逸n requirements．The climbing mechanism has a conversion mechallism of the front wheels．which can realize the conversion from the single three sta卜wheels structure for walking to the double three sta卜wheels structure for climbing．The climbing mechanism combines the adVantage of the two structures．Based the overall climbing scheme of the climbing mechanism． this anicle completes the structural design of the climbing mechanism，including the analysis and design of the four bar linkage mechanism which is the conVersion mechanism of the front wheels，the design of the three star—wheels climbing structure，and the key design of dif．ferential planet gear transmission
