Modal Analysis of XK6032 milling spindle Abstract: The geometric model of XK6032 is set up with ANSYS10.0. After triangulating the geometric model into meshes with Brick Element, we abstracted three types of vibration from it. These types are rock in Z axis, bend in X axis, and bend in Y axis. According to the result, the inherent frequencies of XK6032 spindle are pointed out. Several improvements are put forward. First, raise the rigidity of bearing to reduce vibration in Z axis. Second, pre-tense the spindle to reduce the bend vibration in Y and X axis. Key words: Finite Element, Spindle, Natural Frequency. The machining quality of machine tools largely depends on the main components to guarantee. Spindle stands the cutting force directly, and the variation range of universal machine tools (including CNC machine tools)’s turning speed is often very wide [1]. In the machining process, on condition that the XK6032 machine tool’s spindle at different speeds, may occur resonance with the spindle’s natural frequency, causing dimension errors and shape errors of the work piece [2]. This paper, through establishing XK6032 machine tool spindle geometric models, using tetrahedral unit to gridding the spindle, analyzes the XK6032 machine tool spindle’s first order, second order and third order vibration mode. Through analysis, we get the natural frequency of the spindle, put forward methods to reduce the machining errors, avoiding resonance to happen [3]. If the resonant mode belongs to the spindle body vibration (translational or rocking vibration type), that can improve the stiffness of the bearing; if it belongs to the shaft bending vibration, that can improve the rigidity of spindle, such as thickened diameter properly; when the translational vibration happens, processing plane should be avoided; when swing vibration happens, processing the circumference should be avoided, thereby make a positive effect on the project[4, 5].
