I I Acknowledgments It has been a long and tough journey to write my thesis, since all work is done during my three years’ study in Jiangsu University of Science and Technology. Changes of every sort in the present-day English have taken place concomitantly in different aspects, namely in phonetics (phonemics), grammar (morphology and syntax) and lexicon. Lexicon, as the most active element and the mirror of the society and culture, changes most radically and constantly. This thesis is attempted to analyze the changes since the 20th century and at the same time to summar
