T he results showed t hat: 1) V egetative restorat ion could increase t he content s of the soil org anic mat ter and rapidly available nutrient remarkedly, and improve t he soil f er- t ilit y; 2) Wit h t he increase of t he soil depth , the benefit that veg et at ive restoration heightened t he deg ree of soil fert ilit y w as decreased obviou sly , and t he feat ure of soil org anic matt er gathering on the surface w as most sig nifi- cant in Pinus ta ulaef or mis w oods;
