ABSTRACT Junya Ishigami is one of the most famous star architects in the world today. He’s got impressive success, though completed only a few buildings. Ishigami has published two books, small images and Another scale of architecture , consisting of researches both on his built works and unrealized ones, as well as inquiries on some fundamental concepts of architecture, and imagination of architecture in the future. There are many short reports and commentaries on Junya Ishigami, both foreign and domestic, but very few deep researches on his works and thoughts. Ishigami has very unique understanding and consideration of architecture, such as giving an equal attention to plants and other natural elements as to the buildings and architecture, and new interpretation on the concept of “scale” in architecture, which is to some degree subversive. This article is seeking to present a series of analysis on Junya Ishigami’s views upon architecture from some different but interrelated angles: it starts with some residential projects, which is the simplest and most pertinent, and then it derives thoughts on plants and architecture, as well as on natural environments and artificial environments, from some conceptual works; however, a series of inquiries on the concept of “scale” in architecture initiate another round of consideration, which finally ends with courageous assumption and imagination of architecture in the future from Another scale of architecture . This task focuses on comparative analysis of texts. Due to the specialized characteristics of the history and theory of architecture, it is very necessary to put the whole researches into the context of architectural history.
