Compared with a traditional dictionary, this kind of new dictionary has many advantages. First, in comparison with a traditional dictionary, it’s obviously very handy and convenient Besides, due to its multifunction, it’s also very helpful. It cannot only translate words from English to Chinese, but vice versa. Some even can teach the learner how to pronounce a word. Most important of all, most of the entries in electronic dictionaries are comparatively updated. On the other hand, electronic dictionary has its disadvantages. First, the definitions in the entries are very limited. In addition, there are not enough explanations, patterns, or examples to illustrate the correct usage of word. Last but not the least, constant use of this study aid can make people too much attached to the dictionary and become lazy, which will lead them to form a passive and lazy attitude towards learning. In my opinion, we should use it properly and should have a good English dictionary at hand and treat the electronic one as a makeshift, when necessary.
