Faculty of Architectureand Urban Planning, Kunming University of Science and Technology, Kunming 650500, Yunnan, China) Abstract!In the context of urbanization, the ancient villages are facing the problem of de - provincializa- tion driven by the capital logic and power. Based on the theory of spatial production, this paper analyzes the case of Kunming Huacheng village and summarizes its spatial production process. The study found that the government, the developers and the residents have their own interests - oriented motivation to transform the ancient village. The government and the developers are dominant in decision - making and thus bring the issues as the loss of regional culture and the differentiation of the social space structure, and then they jointly put forward the corresponding protection and renovation countermeasures about ancient village.
