* Filters With the aid of the filter function, the device list can be sorted by various different criteria. This allows the user to control the assignment of addresses as desired. It is thus possible e.g. to assign addresses first to the input data. The addresses in the assignments list can be deleted individually or completely (by marking the assignments column). Creating process data descriptions The ‘Process Data’ dialog box is also used to create individual process data objects from the standard process data, to give them appropriate names and to map them to addresses, variables or other process data descriptions (direct link; bitcopy). To create a new process data description, activate the existing standard process data description by clicking in the dialog box on the corresponding line number. By pressing the Ins key, the process data description is copied and can be edited. Once the process data name has been changed, the required object must be precisely defined by entering the relevant values in the ‘Length’, ‘Byte’ and ‘Bit’ boxes. Length The length of the newly defined process data description in bits. Bytes/bits Specification of the byte/bit, from which the process data description begins. The length of the object must be taken into account. MA Multiple addressing is permitted. Bit-sized process data description Individual addressing In the above example, the two assigned bits (0/1) have each been created individually from the 4-bit inputs and outputs of the loop module to form new process data objects, and have been addressed. In addition, the bit-sized process data descriptions have been mapped to variables (IN01-IN03; OUT01-OUT02). This will be explained in greater detail in the context of process data preprocessing. Combining I/O points of different modules Address space can be saved in the controller by combining the address range or parts of the address range of a module into a single word. The modules can be distributed at any point in
