This novel sets in the background of the American Civil War and the post-war reconstruction. It regards several young men’s love stories and life experience as the main line, concentrates on the love and marriage of the main heroine, Scarlett. After giving an overall introduction of Gone with the Wind, this thesis focuses on analyzing Scarlett’s marriages based on revenge, based on money and based on vanity, mixes loving the hometown, loving the friends and the persistence to the love together. It points out the reason of Scarlett’s view of marriage is caused by the society and her personality. It also leads the readers to set up a correct attitude to love and marriage.
