Based on the data collected throu h documentary research and field observation, land use chan e in Dalian city has display ed an important feature betw een 1996 and 2005, that is the decline of cultivated land and unused land, the increase of constructed land. T hen the drivin forces of land use chan e in Dalian City w as analyzed. On the basis of the study , the dr ivin mechanism of land use chan e in coastal cities w as pr oposed, w hich is the outer drivin mechanism ( spacia-l temporal effects drivin ) and the inner drivin mechanism ( nature-human drivin ) , and their relationship betw een each other.
