GRID WORKFLOW COMPOSITION ABSTRACT The convergence of Grid and Workflow Management has led to the powerful concept of Grid workflow, which is now becoming the driving force for the design of the next generation of distributed and collaborative workflow solution. The large-scale sharing and reuse of Grid workflow, a basic grid service, are important challenges to make grid an intelligentized and integrated environment of problem solving. Workflow composition can solve the complicated business logic or scientific application problems by reusing existing ones. A semantic-based approach for grid workflow composition reduces the complexity of workflow reuses by syntactic expression. At present, grid workflow model emphasize particularly on expression, namely formalize the relationship between the tasks and the properties of each task. With the desire for knowledge retrieval and reuse, the need of a semantic grid workflow description framework emerged. In this paper, a new angle of view to accomplish this task is described. It is based on knowledge representation technology to provide a semantic workflow representation and query mode. Furthermore, the object-oriented inherit idea is imported to our frame. The frame is extendable and configurable, and users can perform semantic query in 3 inherited structure. In order to support efficient workflow design, the concept of Grid Workflow Knowledge Repository is put forward. It provides templates of common workflow. The representation of these templates, called cases, is based on semantic template which is described in this paper. Case retrieval
