* 西洋文學概論報告 報告組別:第一組 組員名單 董彥享 洪承郁 江進詳 鍾宇鈞 林純萍 周承潔 呂宛儒 簡源塘 殷瑋鴻 The Chimney Sweeper 簡介 布雷克(1757~1827)早年寫的Songs of Innocence Experience是他的傑作，每首詩幾乎全用單音節的字，用純純的童稚之音，寫出智慧的詩章，寫出了智慧的詩章，描繪天真的兒童時代和醜陋的成人世界。時代的話以詩人在年齡方面，在思想方面態度上都明顯地分為前後兩期，前期的時代背景是拿破崙的政權垮台，後期為法國大革命。  在Songs of Innocence裡面的Lamb和Little Black Boy還有The Chimney Sweeper這三首詩中都多多少少的社會關懷，尤其當時的黑奴小孩或是低階勞工之子都被賣掉做掃煙囪的(因為矮小的體型)，藉小孩童稚的口吻和對未來的憧憬反諷社會制度的不公和冷漠。  Songs of Experience 中, 作者 利用“experience”描寫墮落世界，比如　“The child is father of men” 這句名言便提醒人們應向孩童學習他們的純真！ Ｔhe Ｃhimney Ｓweeper ? When my mother died I was very young, And my father sold me while yet my tongue Could scarcely cry “’weep!’ weep!’ weep!” So your chimneys I sweep in soot I sleep. ? There’s little Tom Dacre, who cried when his head That curl’d like a lamb’s back, was shav’d, so I said, “Hush, Tom! never mind it, for when your head’s bare, You know that the soot cannot spoil your white hair.” And so he was quiet, that very night, As Tom was a-sleeping, he had such a sight! That thousands of sweepers, Dick, Joe, Ned, Jack, Were all of them lock’d up in coffins of black; ? And by came an Angel who had a bright key, And he open’d the coffins set them all free; Then down a green plain, leaping, laughing, they run, And wash in a river and shine in Sun. Then naked white, all their bags left behind, They rise upon clouds, and sport in the wind. And the Angel told Tom, if he’d be a good boy, He’d have God for his father, never want joy. ? And so Tom awoke; and we rose in the dark, And got with our bags our brushes to work. Tho’ the morning was cold, Tom was happy warm; So if all do their duty, they need not fear harm. 本組Ｃhimney Ｓweeper感想 一般人很難去想像這首詩裡所訴說的童工到多慘。童工們每天爬上煙囪然後清掃著煙囪的灰塵,還不時受到雇主的虐待,只是為了那三餐溫飽而已,這種情形在工業革命時期的英國屢見不鮮。在那個時代童工們被凌虐致死是很平常的事。藉由這首詩Blake以反諷的手法，描述進步的工業革命時期的種種黑暗面。在社會無法伸出援手的同時，童工們只能藉著信仰安慰自己,　當作讓自己活下去的動力。這首詩讀來實在令人難過。到了今日，童工問題仍一直存在著世界的很多角落,浮上檯面的也只是冰山的一角。童工們依舊還是過著苦痛的日子,受
