Eating in a restaurant is a way of life for many people, and you will probably visit very many during your stay. There are many ways that restaurants in America differ from those in China. ;One of the big differences is the way waiters and waitresses behave in the States. Most of them are very informative and won’t hesitate to help you with your choice of food. Almost all restaurants have daily specials. These are usually main courses that tale advantage of seasonal foods and are not a part of the regular menu. Sometimes the daily specials are listed on a card or a blackboard somewhere in the dining room, but almost as often, your waiter or waitress will recite the list of specials for you. ; In some restaurants, the list is very long. You may not remember all of the items, and there may be words you don’t understand. Don’t hesitate to ask your waiter or waitress to repeat or explain. They’ll be happy to advise you on what is best. Another difference is that waiters and waitresses don’t hesitate to talk about themselves. They often introduce themselves and will frequently tell you which specials they like the best. ; Depending on how busy the restaurant is they may ask you questions about yourself.
