R ecent y ears hav e w itnessed a contin iou sly increasing am ount of env ironm ental d isputes due to m any pow er transm ission construction program m es, w h ile their im pacts on eco logy, su ch as land occupation, so il erosion or the havoc to th e b io log ical resource and hab itat, has gradually b ecom e the fo cu s of pub lic concern . H ow ever, in th e process of actual eco-env ironm ental assessm ent on th e pow er tran sm ission projects, the depth and breadth in th is area are still unbalanced and lag far b eh in d th e real n eed s o f th e eco-en v ironm enta l eva luation . F or th is reason , th ere is an urgent dem an d to estab lish a set of relatively scientific, sound and m aneuverab le indicator sy stem , hop ing that it m ay provide a gu idance to the pow er tran sm ission eco-env ironm en tal assessm ent, and thereby prom ote a harm on iou s developm ent betw een C h inas pow er grid construction and env ironm ental protection . T h is paper, on the basis of stud ing p lenty of literature an d case w ork s on the eco-environm ental assessm ent, coup led w ith relevant field survey s of pow er tran sm ission projects, has discu ssed as follow : 1. Sy stem atically stud ied the process of bu ild ing an eco-env ironm ental assessm ent and its ind icator sy stem , thus carried out a sub-period recogn ition of the pow er tran sm ission p roject im pact on eco-env ironm ent by m eans of integrating the sp ecific characteristics of these eng ineerings; 2.
