Foreword 前言 By Rajat Gupta, ICC Chairman 国际商会主席 Rajat Gupta The global economy has given business broader accessthan ever before to markets all over the world. Goodsare sold in more countries ， in large quantities, and ingreater variety. But as the volume and complexity ofglobal sales increase, so do possibilities formisunderstandings and costly disputes when salecontracts are not adequately drafted. The Incoterms? rules, the ICC rules on the use ofdomestic and international trade terms, facilitate theconduct of global trade. Reference to an Incoterms 2010rule in a sale contract clearly defines the partiesrespective obligations and reduces the risk of legalcomplications. Since the creation of the Incoterms rules by ICC in1936, this globally accepted contractual standard hasbeen regularly updated to keep pace with thedevelopment of international trade. The Incoterms 2010rules take account of the continued spread ofcustoms-free zones, the increased use of electroniccommunications in business transactions, heightenedconcern about security in the movement of goods andconsolidates in transport practices.
