The garnet Lu-Hf geochronology has been extensively applied in various types of rocks, especially in metamorphic rocks from the orogens. Garnet Lu-Hf isotopic data have unraveled crucial information beyond other geochronological systems in several aspects. To interpret the garnet Lu-Hf data correctly, a number of issues have to be addressed, including growth models, mechanism of nucleation, closure temperature, mineral inclusions, growth path, isotopic equilibrium, geometry effect and samples preparation. Any miss or underestimate of these issues will produce geologically meaningless and probably wrong Lu-Hf age interpretation.
