Results show ed that the volatile fatty acid (VFA) productionw as mi proved by the both tw o surfactants. On the forth day of ferm entation the VFA production was 226. 4m gL- 1 ( COD based) at a ratio of amphoteric surfactant dosage to dry sludge of 0. 1gg- 1, and itw as8614 m gL- 1 at 0. 1gg- 1 cationic surfactant dosage, w hile itw as only . 2mgL- 1 in the blank test.
