Brief history a) Aristotle (384-322 B.C.), the Greek philosopher: inheritance was a physical substance coming from both parents b) Before 1860: Lamarckian inheritance c) 1860 - 1900: Cell Cycle and pangenesis d) 1900 - 1944: Mendel (rediscovery) and Chromosome theory e) 1944 - 1977: DNA and genetic code f) 1977- today: gene cloning and eukaryotic gene structure 2.
