Besides, residual sulfur dioxide in herbal medicine is harmful to human health. ;Chrysanthemum morifolium is one of the oldest and most frequently used herbal medicines for its sudorific(发汗), eye brightening(明目), scattering cold(驱寒), and cleaning heat and toxin(清热解毒) properties. Chrysanthemum morifolium is also widely used as a food supplement, or herbal tea. The flower contains significant amounts of flavonoids and volatile oils. ;The post-harvest sun-drying process of the flowering head of Chrysanthemum morifolium Ramat. is the traditional treatment for the commodity. Chrysanthemum morifolium was recently reported as being sulfur-fumigated by some herbal farmers or wholesalers during post-harvesting handling and storage. ;The characterization of the volatile compounds could be a useful indicator of the identity and the quality of Chrysanthemum morifolium. Furthermore, the volatile organic constituents(组分) of Chrysanthemum morifolium may contribute to some of the pharmacological(药理) effects of the Chrysanthemum morifolium extracts. ;Using Chrysanthemum morifolium as a model herbal medicine, a new and rapid GC×GC-TOF/MS method was employed to analyze the volatile target components in sun-dried and sulfur-fumigated Chrysanthemum morifolium.
