Unit 9 Singapore - A Place You Will Never Forget! (Section B 2b) I. Analysis of Teaching Material This unit is selected from PEP Grade eight, Unit 9 Section B 2b. Singapore - A Place You Will Never Forget! The language functions are talking about past experiences. And we have a chance to know more information about different cultures in different countries, especially in Singapore. II. Analysis of the Students Students in Grade 8 have learned English for some years. This content is close to the students’ travelling experience and the topic related to cultures of foreign counties, so it can bring up the students’ interest in expressing themselves in English as well. III. Teaching Aims 1. Knowledge aims: (1) Key words and phrases: Students can read and understand words and phrases: Southeast, quarter, fear, Indian, wake, equator, awake. (2) Structure: Students can use the sentence structures: Thousands of…, on one hand…on the other hand, three quarters of the population, an English-speaking country, whether…..or…., the best time to do sth., wake up. 2. Ability aims: (1) Improve students’ abilities of communication and reading skills, especially the ability of making notes. (2)Learn and use the sentence structures to introduce Singapore and other places. 3. Emotion aims: (1) Help students know the more places we travel, the broader our eyesight will be. (2) Improve students’ admiration for our hometown. IV. Teaching Key Points (1) Master the words and expressions and know how to use them. (2) Improve communication skills and reading skills, especially learn how to make notes. Ⅴ. Teaching Difficulties (1) Main idea and the structure of the passage. (2) Give proper advises about how to introduce a place. Ⅵ. Teaching methods Task-based teaching method Communicative method Teamwork method Ⅶ. Teaching Aids A computer, chalks, and so on. Ⅷ.
