Abstract
Thecancertreatmentiseffectiveonlyifitisdetectedatanearlystage.Inthiscontext,Mammographyisthemostef?cientmethodforearlydetection.Duetothecomplexityofthislast,thedistinctionofmicrocalci?cationsoropacitiesisverydif?cult.Thispaperdealswiththeproblemofshapefeatureextractionindigitalmammograms,particularlytheboundaryinformation.Infact,weevaluatedtheef?ciencyonboundaryinformationpossessedbymassregion.WeproposeafeaturevectorbasedonboundaryanalysistoamelioratingthreecaracteristicslikeRDM,convexityandangularones.WeusetheDigitalDatabaseforScreeningMammographyDDSMforexperiments.Someclassi?erslikeMultilayerPerceptronMLPandk-NearestNeighborskNNareusedtodistinguishthepathologicalrecordsfromthehealthyones.UsingMLPclassi?ersweobtained94,2%assensitivity(percentageofpathologicalROIscorrectlyclassi?ed).Theresultsintermofspeci?city(percentageofnon-pathologicalROIscorrectlyclassi?ed)growsaround97,9%usingMLPclassi?er.
