Jay L. Collins
Arthur Andersen ACT
Advanced Cost Management Team
As a member of Arthur Andersens Advanced Cost Management Team (ACT), Jay Collins provides a unique industry perspective. He develops and manages advanced cost management programs for clients including ATT and Xerox. At ATT, he successfully developed and managed the Activity-Based Cost Management (ABCM) program for the Paradyne manufacturing unit.PRIVATE
Jay’s work is unique in that he implemented ABCM in a mainframe environment. His expertise ranges from the development stage to the actual deployment of ABCM projects. Jay managed a cross-functional core team to develop a comprehensive cost system fully dependent on Activity-Based Costing (ABC) parameters. The overall approach included implementing product target cost concepts and identifying areas for improvement. He also performed internal ATT and external Best-In-Class competitive analysis and benchmarking on manufacturing strategy and their ABCM project.
He developed the ABCM training program that has been implemented throughout ATTs product management, RD, and manufacturing groups. The course was expanded to communicate ATTs achievements to other companies, academia and professional organizations. Currently, Jay’s implementation work is featured in a case study for first year MBA students at Harvard Business School.
The founder of ATT’s annual ABCM training conference, Jay hosts numerous workshops and conferences including Linking ABC/ABM to Shareholder Value, a recent presentation to financial officers. In addition, he is a featured ABCM presenter for industry conferences and professional organizations including CAM-I and IMA. At the ATT sponsored ABCM Conference, he presented Improving RD and Engineering Product Development Decisions Using Activity-Based Cost Information.
Jay’s published articles include, ATT Paradyne: Leading in ABC, moving to ABM, New On-Line Application Allows Graphic Display of Costs, and Squeeze on Profi
