As a result, they have built a large distributor network. A consequence of this network is that the client does not have adequate visibility into their distribution process. They understand the quantity and types of product purchased by each distributor, but they do not know the volume, frequency, and revenue of their retail base. The purpose of the project is to provide this information to 220 sales people that work with the distributors in order to grow their individual markets. Arthur Andersen helped this client build a data mart that was fed information from their data warehouse. The information fed to our application is retail level invoice data. The application reads this data and builds a multi-dimensional database that contains invoice level information for their major retail accounts. At full volume the database will contain 220 million invoices and require 150GB of storage. From this corporate repository, Arthur Andersen creates 220 individual databases that are compressed and sent to the user’s via modem each week. Residing on the user’s notebook is an application that allows the users to report on this information. The users can analyze this information and develop action plans for major accounts designed to grow the business. PROJECT APPROACH/WORKSTEPS: Tool Selection - During this phase Arthur Andersen helped the client select the core technologies used to build the application.
