Introduction The results section is to report the results with the basic descriptive data, with text for the tables and figures in a chronological and orderly sequence. 2. Features of the results section • Being objective: no discussion or interpretation or explanation • Being logical:following a sequence of the research topics • Being concise: no repetition of the same data and the same information • Using non-verbal language (using figures and tables) • Using no raw data or intermediate calculations in a research paper • Using mixed tenses Use of verb tenses: present and past tenses • results of hypothesis - past tense • results of descriptive studies - present tense • statements that locate the figures - present tense • statements that summarize the methods - present tense • statements that present the most important findings - past tense 3. Models for results, discussion and conclusion Model 1: Results +Discussion + Conclusion Model 2: Results and Discussion + Conclusion Model 3: Results + Discussion and Conclusion 4. Distinguishing between data and results • Data are facts, numbers or details directly obtained from experiments or observations which stands alone without the general statements of interpretation. Data can be raw data, summarized data (means and standard deviations) or transformed data (percents). • Results, on the other hand, are general statements that interpret the data, actually, they are the summarized, transformed data.
