罗晓雪 201010501160 Protect Our Earth After reading three articles—《Protecting Our Earth 》《To Find Energy Sources That Are More Environmentally Friendly》《Low Carbon Economy》, I gain a deep understanding of the importance and emergency in protecting our earth . According to the passages, it is obvious that sea pollution and population problem are becoming more and more serious in general . For instance , on March 24, 1989, a ship called Exxon Valdez ran around in Prince William Sound in Alaska on her journey to the Los Angeles , more than thirty million liters were spread across many hundreds of square kilometers of water ,and it would ultimately wash up along more than two thousand kilometers of shoreline .Thousands of birds , plants , seals and other marine animals died .Maybe this incident is just the tip of iceberg ,of sea pollution , but it is an alarm which reminds us that our action does great damage to the sea and that responsibility should be taken to protect the ocean because of our cruelty . Another serious problem which draws our attention is population explosion .In 1959 there were about three billion people in this world .By 1999, just 40 years later , there were about twice that number .The population is now approaching seven billion . Since we are encountered with such worse problems , it is high time that several steps should be taken to protect our beautiful but the only planet . To reduce the sea pollution the leak of oil should be avoided. Besides ,Family Planning and One Child Policy do good to the control of population explosion . Recent years , because our county put these measures into reality , we have achieve great effects in the decline in birth rate . I hold the opinion that the developed countries should share more responsibilities , because in the past hundreds of years ,they advanced so rapidly with the use of large scale of fossil fuels which would emissions waste or toxic gas into the air.
