A: Do you have some church affiliation, now?
B: What?
A: Do you belong to a church now?
(2) Turn constituted by a phrase:
A: Oh, I have one class in the evening.
B: On Wednesdays?
(3) Turn constituted by a clause:
A: I really rather not cause right now I am a little ashamed of myself and a little embarrassed.
B: Alright, if you need. ; 1. Desk: What is your last name // Loraine.
Caller: // Dinnis.
Desk: What?
Caller: Dinnis.
2. A: Uh you have been here before // havent you?
B: // Yeh.; How can we avoid overlaps?
As for the speaker, if he wants to hold the floor, he can:
——use some fillers like: um, uh etc.
——indicate the listener by beginning with an expression like:
1. There are three points Id like to make---first...
2. Theres more than one way to do this---one example would be...; How can we avoid silences?
Jan: Dave. Im going to the store.
