Each main class is divided into ten divisi ons, also nu mbered 0 to 9, giv ing the sec ond figure of a book classificati on nu mber, and, with in the main classes, books are grouped on the shelves to corresp ond. For in sta nee, books on art and recreation are arranged in the following divisions:

740 Drawing and Design 790 Amusements
Each divisi on of a main class is the n subdivided in to ten sect ions, the first coveri ng the subject in gen eral and the others, nu mbered 0-9, deali ng with its bran ches.
