The social phenomenon of selfie 第四小组 Define the selfie A selfie is a photo someone takes of themselves, usually on a smartphone. Often they are snapped (拍摄)in front of a mirror for ease of framing(为了取景方便), and in social websites like twitter they are uploaded thick(大量) and fast. There need be no particular context for a selfie. They are not generally photos of people on holidays or doing something out of the ordinary; they are essentially self-portraits(自拍照) shared with anyone who cares to view them using social media. Selfies have become popular over the past few years, with everyone from pop stars to the president of the United States jumping on the bandwagon (潮流). .The pope’s(教皇) doing it, President Barack Obama’s doing it, and celebrities like singer Justin Bieber are doing it . The first recorded use of the word “selfie” In 2002, an Australian man went to his friend’s 21st birthday party. He got drunk, tripped on some steps and cut his lip. He took a picture of his injuries and shared it with his friends on an online forum(论坛).“And sorry about the focus, ” he wrote, “it was a selfie.” Different views on selfie 1、Mary Elizabeth Williams, writing in Salon magazine, says the word reminds us that contemporary(当代) culture is defined by our narcissism(自恋). 2、College student Kaitlin Lehmann said they’re just another way her generation communicates. 3、“I think a lot of people link it to their identity (身份)that a selfie is capturing(捕捉) something that they can show to the world that represents themselves,” said Nathaniel Herr, a psychology professor at American University in Washington.
