Step1. Definition.
名词性从句相当于名词,可以作为主句的主语、表语、宾语和同位语。
主语从句
主语从句在复合句中做句子的主语。
1. That most of these are now threatened and may disappear is a serious matter to the people in Britain.
2. Why he failed the exam wasn’t clear.
3. The problem is that he has gone.
4. It looks/seems as if/though it were going to rain.
宾语从句
宾语从句在复合句中做及物动词的宾语,或用作介词和某些形容词的宾语。
1. I think that it will be of no use.
2. I wonder if you can do me a favour.
3. It depends on whether the boss will agree to you or not.
4. I’m sure that you will win the game.
表语从句
表语从句在复合句中做句子的表语。
1. That is why he didn’t pass the exam.
2. The question is where he has gone.
3. The problem is that he has gone.
4. It looks/seems as if/though it were going to rain.
同位语从句
同位语从句一般由that, whether 等连词引导, 一些也可以由连接副词when引导。
1. The truth that heavy objects and light objects fall at the same speed is known to all.
2. The question whether heavy objects and light objects fall at the same speed is under discussion now.
3. I have no idea when he will be back.
