Water is removed on the former through both the inner and outer fabrics. This two-sided dewatering produces a symmetric filler distribution in the paper. Dewatering Drainage from the stock suspension is effected by various dewatering elements (forming roll, loading unit, vacuum unit , curved suction box, couch roll and high-vacuum suction box). Figure 6 illustrates dewatering with the forming section elements. Approximately 45-55% of the dewatering on the OptiFormer occurs through the outer fabric. Dryness after the former is 17...19 %. * * Pulsating drainage occurs on the loading unit. This is produced by the loadable blades located on the inner fabric side and by the fixed vacuum unit blades located at the loading unit, on the outer fabric side. Additionally, drainage through the outer fabric can be adjusted with the vacuum unit vacuum. * * * * * * DESIGN AND OPERATING PRINCIPLE The curved suction box is equipped with a ceramic slotted cover. The cover slots contain finger-like suction width adjustor blocks, which can be set at the desired suction width. The suction box has one suction chamber with adjustable vacuum. The water drained from the web is fed to a water separator through a suction pipe from the back side of the suction box.
