Take a closer look Assembly: If we Shell Meshed this model, the 5 parts, which are not connected would be meshed separately We want to weld these 5 pieces together There are several different weld types formats available, Point to point, mesh independent Hexa/line, curtain tris/quads and Glinka welds. We will use Glinka welds which best simulate the true fillet welds found in production Extend Surfaces First Extend Surfaces: Geometry - Create/Modify Surface - Extend Surface Set the Extend Surface, Method to Close gaps between midsurfaces. For Parts, you should select all parts by pressing hotkey “a” Enter the maximum gap distance of 20 for Dist. For Method, select Closest. Press Preview Vectors Press Apply if happy with the vectors Seam Welds Assign Element Size: Mesh - Define Connectors - Seam Weld Accept the Default Seam connector name Accept
