Methods 70 elderly patients with distal radius fractures treated in Orthopedics Department of Affiliated Hospital of Inner Mongolia Medical University from April 2010 to April 2014 were selected and divided into control group and experimental group by using a random number table method， with 35 cases in each group. Patients in control group were treated with open reduction and internal fixation， while patients in experimental group were treated with small incision reduction with external fixation operation. The fracture healing time， the excellent and good rate of wrist joint function score， palmar tilt and ulnar deviation of distal radius in 6 and 12 months after operation between two groups were compared. Results The fracture healing time of experimental group was significantly shorter than that of control group， with statistical difference （P ）.
