This section consists of two parts: listening and talking. The first part is listening, in which Backpacker Paul and a receptionist at a hostel are talking about their experiences and the feelings they had traveling around Pingyao.

1.State the places of interest in Pingyao mentioned in the listening material and describe their feelings;
2. Express feelings when they talk about a visit to a historic tourist destination.

Step 1 Pre-listening
·Ask students to think about the questions:
1)What historic places have you been to?
2)Can you mention some of the places of interest there?
3)What were your feelings when you traveled there?
·Draw a conclusion from what students have talked about: when we talk about a visit to a historic tourist destination, we always share our feelings upon discovering new things.
·Show some pictures of places of interest in Pingyao and ask students to name them.

1.Listening for gist
·Ask students to listen to a conversation about Pingyao between Paul and a receptionist and tick the places mentioned in Activity 1 on page 43.
·Check the answers.
2. Listening for specific information
·Play the recording again and ask students to pay attention to the speakers feelings while listening and finish Activity 2 on page 43.
·Check their answers.
Step 3 Learning expressions
·Explain the meanings and uses of the expressions in Activity 2 on page 43.
