The first great epic is the Iliad .The poem concentrates on the last ten days of the Trojan war which happened between Greece and Troy .The reason for the war is that Paries has abducted Helen.wife of Menelaus of Sparta .Agum emnon attacked Troy with an arm y , the greek arm y left outside the troy city a huge wooden horse secretly carrying a large number of greek soldiers . the Trojans seized the wooden horse and brought it into the city .that night the greek arm y em erged from the horse and sacked the city . the iliad ends up the priam’s son Hector’s funeral .  The second great epic is the odessey .it tells of odyesseus journey hom e from the Trojan war .he had angered Posiedon the sea god ,so his journey was fraught with many adventures as he was ship wrecked several times . eventually he arrived hone to find his wife had been beset by a horde of suitors but had remained faithful to her husband and resisted their suits .finally he cleverly kills all the suitors with the help of his son and Mentor , the old fam ily retainer .  ② Herodotus was a fam ous historian in ancient Greece ,who is often called “the father of history”. He invented history as a literal form and wrote the first real history book . about the war between the greeks and persains but also contained m any elem ents of geography , zoligyete . he tried to unite facts but diffculty at that time so his book “histories “contains many mistakes .  ③another historian Thueydides is generally reckoned as one of the greatest of ancient Greece for his truthfulness ,conciseness and imagination .his history of the Pelopcnesian war between athens and sparta is an impartial , concise and scientific work due to his own experience as an exile and his serious attitude towards his writing .he traced events to their causes and spelt out the consequences.  3.Rom
