; Saint Patricks Day is a cultural and religious holiday celebrated on 17 March. It commemorates Saint Patrick (c. AD 387– 461), the most commonly recognised of the patron saints(守护神 )of Ireland, and the arrival of Christianity (基督教) in Ireland.  ;Saint Patrick;Saint Patricks Day has come to be associated with everything Irish: anything green and gold, shamrocks (三叶草）and luck. Most importantly, to those who celebrate its intended meaning, St. Patricks Day is a traditional day for spiritual renewal(获得新生 )and offering prayers for missionaries(传教士） worldwide.;Shamrocks 三叶草 ;A kind of oxalis (酢浆草)with three slices of heart-shaped leaves representing the Holy Trinity —— Heavenly Father, Christ child and Heavenly Ghost in religion(宗教上三位一体 －天父、圣婴及圣灵的重要教义 ). Therefore shamrocks (三叶草)became the symbol of the Ireland. And finding the shamrock with four leaves is the symbol of good fortune.;Leprechauns (小矮人) is the role of legend. Like to tie people’s two shoelaces(鞋带) together, then they will fall down when standing up.; One theory is that it is the day when St. Patrick died. Since the holiday began in Ireland, it is believed that as the Irish spread out around the world, they took with them their history and celebrations. The biggest observance of all is, of course, in Ireland. With the exception of restaurants and pubs, almost all businesses close on March 17th. Being a religious holiday as well, many Irish attend mass, where March 17th is the traditional day for offering prayers for missionaries worldwide before the serious celebrating begins.;.
