Think and discuss: What do you think about American life in the 1830s? Guide the students to make a wise choice. Help the students to know some related background knowledge. 1. To arouse the students’ interest. 2. To let the students know background of the story. 3 Step Two: Pre-reading 1. Look at the introduction and the title of the story on page 99. Then answer some questions. 2. Guess something about a brief introduction of Mark Twain 3. Look at the picture on page 99 and answer some simple questions 1.
