Methods The primarily cultured neonate rat hippocampal neuro were randomly divided into normal, anoxiareoxygenation and large, middle, and small dosage of Chinese Medicineprotective groups. The Chinese Medicineprotective groups were treated with different concentratio of Naoshenkang containing serum before reoxygenation. The metabolic rate of MTT, the content of malondialdehyde (MDA) and the activities of superoxide dismutase (SOD), lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) were measured by assay kits. The apoptosis rates of hippocampal neuro were tesed by flow cytometry. RTPCR was used to evaluate the mRNA expressio of bcl2 and bax genes. Results The activity of SOD, survival rate of cell, the ratio of bcl2/bax and the expression of bcl2 mRNA in anoxiareoxygenation group were significantly lower (all P), but the levels of MDA and LDH, the apoptosis rate and the expression of bax mRNA were higher (all P) than those in normal group. The activity of SOD, the survival rate of cell, the expression of bcl2 mRNA and the ratio of bcl2/bax in all Chinese Medicineprotective groups were significantly higher (all P), but the levels of MDA and LDH, the apoptosis rate and the expression of bax mRNA were lower (P, P) than those in anoxiareoxygenation group and demotrated obvious dosageeffect relatiohip. Conclusio Naoshenkang capsule has a protective effect on hippocampal neuro agait anoxiareoxygenation injury, and its mechanism may be that the Chinese Medicine can increase the antioxid
