Global Reading Questions Answers 1. What do you think about the structure of the text? (1) How does the author begin the text? The author gives us a brief introduction: There are three kinds of thinking and I myself could not think at all. (2) What can we learn from paras 2—14? The headmaster’s criticism of the writer for being unable to think. (3) What can we learn from paras 15—21? The writer’s observation of his teachers to find out about thought. (4) What can we learn from paras 22—24? The writer’s conclusion about grade-three thinking: feeling rather than thought, full of unconscious prejudice, ignorance and hypocrisy. (5) What is the main idea of para 25? Grade-two thinking: the detection of contradictions but unable to offer anything constructive. It destroys without the power to create.
