PART IIMicrobial Nutrition,Growth, and Control Chapter 5 Microbial Nutrition Nutrition is a process by which chemical substances called nutrients are acquired from the environment and used in cellular activities such as metabolism and growth. With respect to nutrition,microbes are not really so different from humans and plants. Macronutrients 95% or more of cell dry weight is made up of a few major elements: carbon, oxygen, hydrogen, nitrogen, sulfur, phosphorus, potassium, calcium and magnesium . The first six ( C, H, O, N, P and S) are components of carbohydrates, lipids, p
