AV Fistula use was compared for two patient subgroups with different levels of comorbidity: The first subgroup consisted of non-diabetic patients, age 18-54 years old, without peripheral vascular disease and without coronary artery disease. In EUR, 89% of males and 76% of females in this subgroup were using an AVF compared with 41% of US males and 22% of US females. The second subpopulation consisted of diabetic patients, 54 years of age, who have peripheral vascular disease and/or coronary artery disease.
