Contrastive study In China, contrastive study is a comparatively new branch of linguistics. However, recent years have witnessed its rapid development and tremendous achievements as the results of the efforts of the researchers. Contrastive study reveals similarities and dissimilarities between the two languages and suggests the dialectic approaches to language study. ;3. A contrastive study of English and Chinese A contrastive study of English and Chinese not only helps to form a new method, which can be applied in language teaching and translation but also benefits the communication. By contrastive study, language learners can gain a better insight of peculiarities of their mother language and the foreign language. In the process of communication, it is possible for them to be conscious of the similarities and dissimilarities between the two languages in order to avoid committing mistakes, thus making communication possible. ;4. About this course This course offers an introduction to contrastive study on English and Chinese. It is quite necessary for a language learner to learn this course and the Chinese scholar Lian Shuneng has given us an excellent contrastive study on English and Chinese.
