A 1 OF 3 Replacing the 2998 Lamp When to Replace • The sampling rate requires an excessively long exposure time (more than 100 milliseconds). • The lamp intensity has decreased to a point which does not provide adequate light energy, resulting in a flashing “Status” LED. • The lamp intensity has decreased to a point which does not provide adequate light energy for your application, resulting in a noisy baseline. • The lamp repeatedly fails to ignite. • The detector fails to calibrate. NOTE: You can expect the 2998 PDA detector lamp to provide adequate energy for 2000 hours. Parts Required • Performance Maintenance Kit, # 201000186 Tools Required • T20 Torx driver (WAT057387) or 1/4-inch flat-blade screwdriver (WAT272058) Precautions • The lamp housing becomes extremely hot during operation. To prevent burns to the skin, allow the lamp to cool for 30 minutes before removing it. • To avoid eye injury from ultraviolet radiation exposure, power-off the detector before changing the lamp. • Wear eye protection that filters ultraviolet light. • Keep the lamp in the housing during operation. • To prevent lamp glass contamination, use powder-free latex gloves when removing or replacing the lamp. • Do not touch the lamp glass while unpacking or inserting the lamp. Touching the lamp glass damages the lamp and reduces life expectancy. Removing the Old Lamp 1. Power off the lamp. 2. Turn the detector off, and disconnect the power cord. 3. Allow the lamp to cool for at least 30 minutes. 4. Lift up the detector front cover and pull it away from the detector chassis. Replacing the 2998 Lamp REV. A
