A 1 OF 7 Rebuilding the 2998 Flow Cell When to Perform • Lamp LED is on, but the lamp diagnostic test fails • Detector causes high backpressure • Flow cell leaks Follow these steps to rebuild the flow cell: • Flushing the Flow Cell • Removing the Flow Cell Assembly • Disassembling the Flow Cell • Rebuilding the Flow Cell • Replacing the Flow Cell Assembly Parts Required • 2998 Analytical Flow Cell Rebuild Kit, #700003798 Tools Required • 3/16-inch Allen wrench • Inch-ounce Torque screwdriver (if available) • Small flat-blade screwdriver • Needle-nose pliers • Plastic tweezers • Dental pick • Eye loupe or magnifying glass • Non-particulating swab or lens tissue • Methanol, reagent grade Precautions 1. To prevent contamination, use finger cots or powder free latex gloves when touching the flow cell lenses or window. 2. Take care to prevent scratching of the flow cell parts. 3. Use a clean non-particulating cloth or a similar clean surface to work on when removing, rebuilding, and replacing the flow cell. 4. Always replace the flow cell gaskets when cleaning, rebuilding, or replacing other flow cell components. Rebuilding the 2998 Flow Cell REV. A 2 OF 7 Flushing the Flow Cell 1. Select a solvent compatible with the samples and mobile phases that you have been using. If you have been using buffers, flush with 10 mL of HPLC-grade water, then flush with 10 mL of a low-surface-tension solvent such as methanol.
