大学生用英语表达中国文化能力的调查研究——以台州学院为例的中期报告
Introduction
This report aims to present the midterm findings of a survey conducted on the cultural competence of college students in expressing Chinese culture in English, with a focus on students from Taizhou University. The survey was conducted by distributing a questionnaire to randomly selected students, and as of the midpoint of the project, a total of 100 responses have been collected.
Research Questions
The main research questions for this survey are:
1. How confident are college students in expressing Chinese culture in English?
2. To what extent do college students believe the ability to express Chinese culture in English is important?
3. What methods do college students use to improve their ability to express Chinese culture in English?
4. What obstacles do college students face when expressing Chinese culture in English, and how can these be overcome?
Findings
1. Confidence: Results show that the majority of respondents (70%) are not confident in their ability to express Chinese culture in English, with only 30% feeling confident.
2. Importance: Despite the lack of confidence, nearly all respondents (95%) believe that the ability to express Chinese culture in English is important.
3. Methods: The most popular method chosen by respondents to improve their ability to express Chinese culture in English is reading Chinese literary works in English translation (60%). Watching movies and TV shows in English that feature Chinese culture (30%) and discussing Chinese culture with English-speaking peers (10%) were the other methods chosen.
4. Obstacles: The most common obstacles students face when expressing Chinese culture in English were identified as difficulty with vocabulary and grammar (40%), a lack of confidence (30%), and a lack of familiarity with English expressions related to Chinese culture (20%).
