ThisrevisionoftheSAEJ3080includestypographicalcorrectionsandprovidestheproperinternalrefe『encestoother
sectionsoritemsinthedocument.Theoriginalrationalefromtheoriginalreleaseisstillapplicable.
Brakerotorcracksoncommercialvehiclescancompromisethestructuralintegrityofthefoundationbrake.Thesefailures
canamounttosignificantmaintenanceanddowntimecosts.Inordertoprovideanearlyassessmentofthisfailuremode,
vehiclemanufacturersaswellasbrakesuppliershavedevelopedmultiplelaboratorytestprocedures.Theseprocedures
determine(usingdifferenttestmethodsandtestapproaches)thepropensityofagivenfrictioncouple(brakerotorand
frictionmaterial)todevelopcrackswhichcanrenderthebrakesout-of-service.
