Abstract:WereportthattheinterferencepatternofYoung’sdouble-slit

experimentchangesasafunctionofpolarizationinthesub-wavelength

diffractionregime.Experimentscarriedoutwithterahertztime-domain

spectroscopyrevealthatdiffractedwavesfromsub-wavelength-scale

slitsexhibiteitherpositiveornegativephaseshiftwithrespecttoGouy

phasedependingonthepolarization.Theoreticalexplanationbasedonthe

inductionofelectriccurrentandmagneticdipoleinthevicinityoftheslits

showsanexcellentagreementwiththeexperimentalresults.
