Metaladditivemanufacturingmachinesarecomplexand
inherentlydigitalandoftencyber-physicalsystems.Astheadop-
tionofthismanufacturingtechnologyincreasesanditbecomesincreasinglyindustrialized,concernsaboutsecurityareevermoreprevalent.Bothcyberandnon-cyberrelatedattacksoncriticalinfrastructuresuchasadditivemanufacturingproductionsystemsarecausesforconcernforindustryandgovernment.Boththepublicandprivatesectorsneedtofocusonsecuringtheirin-formationsystemstoreducetheriskofsecurityattacksandtheiradverseeffects.ThisresearchaimstoapplytheNationalInstituteofStandardsandTechnology’sRiskManagementFrameworktothemetaladditivemanufacturingproductionscenario.TheRiskManagementFrameworkdefinesarigorous,yetflexibleandre-peatable,processformanagingsecurityrisk.Amodel-basedassessmentapproachisproposedtoleveragethedigitalnatureofthismanufacturingtechnology.Acasestudyisperformedtodemonstratethisapproachforacommerciallaserpowderbedfusionmachineinitsoperatingenvironment.Thiscasestudyfocusesonthetechnologicalsecurityrisks.Thisstudydemon-strateshowamodel-basedapproachmaximizesthebenefitsoftheRiskManagementFrameworkbyimprovinginformationanddecisiontraceabilityforaddressingmetaladditiveman
