    EXECUTIVESUMMARY

    •Performanceagainstmostservicemeasureswascomparabletoourhighstandardsofrecentyears

    andcustomersatisfactionlevelsremainhigh.Wefailedtomeetourleakagetargetbutare

    determinedtorecoverourpositionin2002-03.OurDG3performanceimprovedto“acceptable”but

    stillrequiressignificantimprovement.

    •Waterresourcesremainedhealthyatof2001-02.Byyear-endtheproportionofdomestic

    customerspayingbymeterhadpassedthe50%mark.

    •Afterexcludingsomeatypicalsavings,ouroverallopexspendwashigherthanthatallowedinthe

    FinalDetermination,supportingouropinionthattheDeterminationwasverytough.

    •Ourtotalcapitalspendwas£264m,whichincludedasmallamountofdiscretionaryexpenditureon

    sewerflooding,odourandlowpressure.Wehavedeliveredallourcapitaloutputsinaccordance

    withthedeterminationinvestmentprogrammesforbothwaterandwastewater.Ourmost

    significantcompletionin2001-02wasthenewsewagetreatmentworksatLowestoft,ourbiggest

    singlecapitalprojectsince1989.

    •Wehaveincurredsignificantcostsonsludgetreatmentwhichwebelieveareeligibleforloggingup

    andlookforwardtodiscussingtheseaspartoftheAMP4negotiations.Wearealsokeentoresolve

    howtodealwiththecostsofanyadditionalsewerfloodinginvestmentwemightundertakeduring

    thecurrentquinquennium.

    •Welookforwardtocompletingourring-fencingandfinancialrestructuringplaninthenearfutureand

    deliveringitsbenefitstoallstakeholders.

    whichhaveoperatedunderasinglelicencesince1April2000.
